Fact: Mark is the fastest kid in the world

Mark

Mark had an awesome showing at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships this past weekend. Most impressively he joined the 7m club with a long jump of 7.01m. Also, despite struggling with it in practice for the last couple of weeks he pulled out a PB in shot put with a throw of 13.05m. These events helped lead him towards a PB pent score of 3825 ranking him 1st going into the Canadian Interuniverstiy Sport (CIS) championships in two weeks time. Our training partner Zachary Quevillon also had a great day with PB's in the hurdles, shot and overall pent.

Mark will be competing for the highly ranked GeeGee's. With a strong team led by Sekou Kaba, Mike Robertson, Devin Biocchi, Moussa Sissoko, and Oluwasegun Makinde they are looking to bring home the National Championship title.

Pat

Patrick is preparing for the Jim Click Shootout in Arizona just over a month away. His practices have been going really well and we're excited to see what he can put together in his season opener. He's feeling strong and his discus has never felt better. Take a look at the whip he gets and you'll see why he feels like 50m is in the cards this season (warning: this video was shot on 'split-short thursday' from a very crotch friendly angle).

Reid

With competition the furthest away, I was able to take a bit of a recovery week. With the extra time away from track I nerded-up hard. I wrote a riveting paper "A Comparative Analysis of the Impact of Lobbying on the Stability of Financial Markets in Canada and the United States" which should be hitting the back of my professors trash receptacle shortly. I also spent the better portion of my thursday teaching myself basic html and javascript to create the best damned points calculator in the world, so PLEASE use it for all your point calculating needs.

Meet Pat Arbour

Hi all! I'm Pat. Born and raised in the nation’s capital. Growing up I played AAA Hockey just like all good Canadian boys in the winter. In the summer I brought my size to the soccer field. The highlight of elementary school was always the "Olympic Games"; our schools day long track and field event. I learned early on that I could throw things farther than the average kid. I started throwing the 800g spear in grade 9 after being influenced by my Dad's history with Javelin. Throughout high school I also played volley-ball and badminton but looked forward to track meets the most.

In 2005 I joined the Ottawa Lions and started throwing competitively. I was always encouraged to do the decathlon. My fear of the 1500m always lead to an abrupt end to those conversations with my identity as a thrower intact. In 2006, I met James Holder, a Canadian decathlon champion. I still insisted “I will never do the decathlon”…but by 2009 I was his full time athlete, training for the decathlon. Never say never! It turns out decathlon is a good fit for me: I have a short attention span, so this way as my attention dwindles I move onto the next event.

Since 2009 I have yet to look back.  Our humble single person training group has grown into quite the combined events training ensemble, a small army if you will. I love the decathlon; it’s a physical challenge, mental test, and “gut check”. If you can complete one, you come out the other end a better man. The brotherhood of fellow competitors truly is unmatched in sport. We push our athletic abilities every day we train, raising the bar both figuratively and literally.

Meet Mark Chenery

I'm Mark, I grew up in Victoria, BC and have been doing track and field competitively since 2004. I entered my first decathlon in my grade 10 year at the B.C. High School Championships.  I first began competing in track and field as a way to miss class in school, but continued because I enjoyed the people, lifestyle and opportunity to travel.  Today, the love for it hasn't diminished and it's for the love of the sport and the love of competition.  Track has created many opportunities for me and has brought me half way across the country to find new ones.
This blog was created as a way for family and friends back home to see my life and the progress/steps I'm taking towards my athletic and career goals.  Currently, I am in my 4th year at the University of Ottawa in the Geography Department and I am looking forward to future competitions with the uOttawa Gee Gee's and Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club.

This season I am looking forward to once again hosting the Pan-American Cup this June here in Ottawa, and for the Canadian Track and Field Championship this June in Moncton.  Always with hopes of gaining further international experience.

(Coach Ryan, Patrick, Myself, and Head Coach James with Pan-Am Cup Team Title)

Outside of athletics I thoroughly enjoy movie naps and playing PS3, especially COD even though I'm absolutely terrible at it.  I am also fortunate enough (or weird enough, depending on perspective) to not like any/all candies, sweets, and chocolate etc.  Protects my waistline!
